Mauna Kea

I was sitting in a van for work last summer facing Mauna Kea mountain, waiting for the tour guide to return with my guests for me to drive back to Kona. (This was before all the activity up on the mountain) Painted this little watercolor around 5:00 pm as the sun was getting lower and the shadows were growing longer.
This is another one of my 5 entries in the Plein Air Perspectives show in Hilo that opened on Feb 7.

DAWN, KOHALA

This was one of two paintings I had  in the West Hawaii Community Health Center "Art is Healing" show / competition in the November of 2019. (Fish are Jumping was the other one) . And woo hoo! I won the Juror's Choice award! I felt honored and humbled and totally surprised!
Again, the Kohala Mountain cliffs, as seen from the south end of Puako in the early morning  as the sun hits those first wave tops. Painted on location.
**(And The Health Center since notified me they are going to purchase this painting! Woo double-hoo!!)

A Delicate Balance

My entry in the Hawaii Nei juried conned in 2019 in Hilo, Hawaii. I won a Juror's Choice Award! Wow, you could have knocked me over, I was so surprised!
This one went through several stages as I got really sick with bronchitis right after starting it, and by the time I was strong enough to work on it again I only had 3 days left before the deadline!

"Oh Lovely Mauka"

Here's one of the 5 paintings I had accepted into Plein Air Perspectives competition in Hilo. It opened last night at the Wailoa Center. This piece is called "Oh lovely Mauka!" My brother was working up mauka (mountain -side) in Captain Cook and invited me there in the early morning to paint. This was looking north toward Hualalai Mountain. Brrr....boy was it cold up there in the morning! (maybe the 2800' level? )
